Write for us
Open City Briefing welcomes pitches that help readers understand the shared places, services and public processes of city life. Send proposals through the Contact page; a concise, focused idea is more useful than a finished article attached without context.
What we welcome
Propose a clear explainer, comparison, piece of civic history or reader-oriented account of a city feature. Strong subjects can be handled without specialist instruction: they clarify a useful distinction, explain how a public document is structured, or help readers notice an overlooked feature of a shared place.
What makes a good pitch
Tell us the central question, the intended reader and the main point the piece would leave them with. Include a brief outline, the kind of material you would use to support factual claims, and any local or subject limits readers should know. Keep the idea distinct from topics already covered and avoid promises that depend on access or testing you do not have.
Sending a proposal
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then describe your pitch in the message. Please include a working title and a short summary. Sending a proposal does not guarantee publication; do not send confidential documents or material you are not entitled to share.
A city is made in common
Shared places and public choices shape how a city feels to live in. We look closely at the arrangements, language and everyday details behind them.
